Cycling tour from Tja to Salacgrva along the Baltic sea coastline in Vidzeme (Northern part of Latvia). Totally ~25-30 km, mainly on unpaved road and small trails. One can make the tour shorter if starting it right in the Tja village and ending the tour in Vitrupe, where the small unpaved road is crossing the Via Baltica highway. There are few places during the tour where the bikes must be carried or manhandled, but it's not too extreme.
AMap1.jpg
We started in the morning at 7 a.m. from Riga and took the road through Saulkrasti.
PICT0001.JPG
The first stop was in the pub in Carnikava near the river gauja where we wanted to have the morning coffee but unfortunately it is opening only on 10 a.m:(
PICT0003.JPG
But the cafe in Saulkrasti was open and the coffee - very good.
PICT0005.JPG
We organized everything as follows - we left all the bycicles with one of us in the beginning of the road and went with our two cars to the end of our tour to the campsite 'Vjavm' where we left one of the cars and went with the second car back to the starting point in Tja.
PICT0007.JPG
The weather was perfect - everything was blossoming and the sun was shining...
PICT0010.JPG
The former brick stone factory in Tja - nowdays tha building is empty, but the chimeney was very impressive.
PICT0012.JPG
Some of the new houses in Tja village are very coasy.
PICT0015.JPG
The road is perfect - in some places even covered with asphalt, but mainly with grant, very few cars.
PICT0020.JPG

Entering the Biosphere reserve of North-Vidzeme.
PICT0025.JPG
The road leads along the very coast of the sea.
PICT0028.JPG
Visur zied pienenes, skats visapkārt kā pasakā.
PICT0031.JPG
Nu vai nav pasaka?
PICT0033.JPG
Jaskatās uzmanīgāk - varbūt kaut kur kāds vienradzis ganās, nu vai vismaz nāra ...
PICT0036.JPG
There are many old traditional fishermen houses on the shores.
PICT0038.JPG
The road is a bit sandy, but it's ok.
PICT0040.JPG
Ceļs iet gar pašu jūru
PICT0042.JPG
There are also some well equipped resting places.
PICT0049.JPG
PICT0050.JPG
Un tā visu laiku - laikam esmu bijis pilsētā pārāk ilgi - viss liekas tiiik skaists
PICT0051.JPG
PICT0052.JPG
Nuja - bez tā jau nevar
PICT0053.JPG
Izeja uz jūru neesot, bet jūru var redzēt - laikam izeja gan ir bet tikai dažiem ...
PICT0055.JPG
Cars are not allowed to go further, but by bicycle or by feet - no problem.
PICT0059.JPG
The coat is becomming more and more stoany.
PICT0060.JPG
Mazas upītes ik pa brīdim izlauž ceļu uz jūru
PICT0061.JPG
Juris kā parasti fotografē un izradās baigās nevienā fotogrāfijā tā arī nav iekļuvis ...
PICT0063.JPG
urmrags lighthouse - some 10 years ago it was situated on the bank but now - some 30 m in the sea - global warming???
PICT0064.JPG
Stones, stones, stones. The beach is very dense.
PICT0066.JPG
Sandstone cliffs look very impressive after the this years big storms.
PICT0067.JPG
The consequences of the storms are still to bee seen everywhere...
PICT0068.JPG
In some places the road converts in small trails - but they are very good for cycling.
PICT0071.JPG
Uz priekšu iet pavisam raiti - tikai ik pa brīdim elpa aizraujas no jauna skaista skata - un tas, protams, jāizstāsta tuvākajam līdzbraucējam it kā tas pats to neredzētu ... Tā ka nevarētu teikt, ka raiti iet uz priekšu ...
PICT0072.JPG
PICT0076.JPG
And what now?
PICT0077.JPG
In some places the road just ends with a buff ... the storms again...
PICT0080.JPG
Virsējais smilšu slānis noskalots apakšējais māla slānis palicis veidojot savādas platformas un veidojumus.
PICT0081.JPG
A beaver in the sea??? Something that we have never seen in our lives, what is he doing there between the stones?
PICT0083.JPG
And this could be a view from the beavers perspective to us and the lighthouse...
PICT0084.JPG
We allways take our binocular with us - so we can watch the beaver diving in the sea.
PICT0086.JPG
Nu labi tagad cēls vairs ir tikai nosacīts, taču tas jau mūs neapturēs ...
PICT0087.JPG
The road converts in a small trail.
PICT0088.JPG
Un kā parasti, tieši gar jūras malu. Sākam tā pierast, ka ja nav katrus 100 metrus jauns aizraujošs skats, gandrīz apvainojamies.
PICT0089.JPG
Vēl daži ceļa vētras nogazti koki
PICT0090.JPG
Jūra atkal drusku svādāka
PICT0095.JPG
We have to cross a small river.
PICT0096.JPG
Sandstone cliffs again.
PICT0098.JPG
A place where one can go very civilized to the sea.
PICT0100.JPG
This bridge vas very interesting ... first a ride down a hill, the a turn 90 degrees and then suddenly a small bridge not broader than 1 m...
PICT0103.JPG
Par sarūgtinājumu visiem ceļu turpinam sausi
PICT0104.JPG
A nice resting place again.
PICT0105.JPG
PICT0109.JPG
Da˛i velosipēdisti izvēlas jūras krastu braucienam, bet akmeņi noteikti nepalīdz to veikt...
PICT0110.JPG
PICT0112.JPG
Purenes zied katras upītes krastos.
PICT0114.JPG
PICT0115.JPG
Here the storm damages are the biggest - the road ir totally destroyed.
PICT0116.JPG
Bet pabraukt var tik un tā. Vismaz riktīgi apgūsti velo atrumu pārslēgu lietošanu.
PICT0118.JPG
Tagad jau jūras malā ir vienos akmeņos. Un kā parsti nogruvumi ...
PICT0119.JPG
The stor again...
PICT0120.JPG
This is a bit confusing - but cyclists are allowed to go there.
PICT0121.JPG
Lumanor.
PICT0124.JPG
In former times here was a school but now it is sold and a guest house and restaurant will be built.
PICT0127.JPG
And we arrive in the campsite 'Vjavas' where we have left one of our cars.
PICT0128.JPG
The main house of the campsite 'Vjavas'.
PICT0130.JPG
Sauna.
PICT0132.JPG
A pond with fishes.
PICT0133.JPG
The storms have thrown the forest side (150 m from the sea) full with grass.
PICT0134.JPG
Also the car parking place should be made anew, because the sea storms have destroyed everything.
